Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed the suprising reason that Riyad Mahrez was left out of his squad for the Community Shield final against Liverpool.
Mahrez played a pivotal part in helping Algeria win the Africa Cup of Nations over the summer but has come back to England with one huge problem.
It was believed that Mahrez had taken an unknown substance whilst away from City and Guardiola did not want to risk the Algerian failing a drugs test.
City were unable to determine whether Mahrez’s substance would result in a failed drug test or not, so for precaution he was left out.
Pep said: ‘Riyad called me and asked if he could come back and pay the Liverpool game, I said that would be perfect

‘However we did not know enough about the substance Mahrez had taken and it was not worth the risk
‘Hopefully we will see him back against West Ham for the first game of the new Premier League season’
